About the event
Join foraging, cooking and folk medicine teacher Heather Flournoy for this immersive workshop at DIG Farm where we can expect to find wild plants surrounding the organic gardens and along trails in diverse terrain from gardens to wetland to maple-oak-beech forest.
You can sign up for Part 1, 2 or both! Part 1: plant identification talk and 1 hour meandering foraging walk (there are some hills) Part 2: Workshop. Hands-on plant processing, cooking and medicine making with the wild plants we've collected on our walk. Plus we'll work on crafting our own wild plant ID journals. You'll take home your creations!
On the foraging walk you'll learn how to identify and harvest wild plants right from the garden beds before cultivated plants have even been set out! This is a unique opportunity to explore the diverse terrain of DIG Farm, which is adjacent to public trails and features gardens, wetlands, and maple-oak-beech forested areas.
For those that opt for full experience, we'll then take our plants and transform them into food and folk medicines that you can take home. We'll discuss and explore the many culinary and medicinal uses of the plants you discover on the walk.
We strongly recommend wearing tick preventive clothing to ensure a comfortable and safe experience.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced forager, this class is perfect for anyone interested in learning about the local flora and fungi!
